How To Find Content Ideas For Social Media

by

Digital Marketing / August 08, 2023

With so many different social media platforms, so many different types of content, so many competitors, and algorithms that are impossible to keep up with – coming up with new ideas every month can be quite the challenge.

We asked our social media experts for some tips and here’s what they had to say:

01. Consume Social Media Content regularly

Sounds pretty doable, right? Social media platforms are dynamic hubs of ideas, trends, and discussions, serving as an endless well of inspiration. By dedicating time for this, you can stay updated on the latest trends and better understand what topics you should address.

There are also a LOT of newsletters you can sign up for that will keep you up to date on all the latest trends and social media updates. Our social media team has been loving these:

  1. Later

Get the biggest social media news, Instagram & TikTok tips, plus free resources to level up your strategy.

  1. Social Media Today

The daily newsletter will keep you up-to-speed on: Social Media Marketing, Social Platform Updates, Social Strategy, Content Marketing, Influencer Marketing, & Digital Marketing.

  1. Buffer

They will keep you in the loop with their best advice and strategies for social media marketing and growing a small business.

  1. The Verge

They offer their audience everything from breaking news to reviews to award-winning features and investigations.

Psst – don’t hesitate to click the “save” button on the posts that most inspire you. Your saved folder will quickly become a gold mine when it comes time to work on your monthly editorial calendar.

02. Listen To Your Audience

Listening to your audience is an exceptional and invaluable method for generating fresh content ideas. It’s the key to creating content that resonates with them.

When you create content that directly addresses their concerns or captures their passions, you’ll witness increased engagement, loyalty, and even organic sharing as your audience becomes advocates for your brand. Ultimately, by listening to your audience, you not only enhance your content’s relevance and quality but also build a loyal and enthusiastic following that keeps coming back for more.

This can be easily done in many ways:

  • Read ALL the comments (duh!) and respond to them
  • Engage with your audience using polls in instagram stories
  • Run contests and giveaways
  • Try the “ask me anything” sticker in your instagram story

03. Research Keywords

Ever heard of the Reddit Keyword Research Tool? Here at Bloom, we develop and produce a lot (#socialmediaagencylife) of editorial calendars every month and we’re absolutely loving this little tool! It’s definitely one of our favourite ways to come up with new content ideas.

Here’s why it’s better than the typical keyword research tools: instead of giving you a bunch of random suggestions from a seed keyword, The Reddit Keyword Research Tool shows you what’s hot and happening on Reddit. Just pop in a subreddit, and boom! You’ll see all the trending topics and discussions people are buzzing about. It’s like a magic source of inspiration that keeps me connected and up-to-date with the latest Reddit conversations. Give it a try! You’ll be amazed at the ideas you’ll discover!

04. What Are Your Competitors Doing?

This may be an obvious one, but it’s so important! Take the time to really scroll through all their platforms. What are they sharing? How often are they posting? Which call to action are they using? And most importantly: How can you do it better?

Your competitors profiles are not only a great way to get inspired and stay up to date on the trending subjects within your industry, but also a great way to understand how you can differentiate yourself from them.

05. Look For The Trending Sounds

It’s no secret that video content is king at the moment. Whether it’s on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts – you’re going to want to find which sounds are trending and boost your content’s reach.

TikTok has made this process very easy and accessible with their trend discovery tool. This allows you to identify which sounds are on the rise and what is the content associated with that sound. More often than not, a sound will be associated with a trend. If the trend can be adapted to your brand, by all means, go for it! The trendier the better!
